Who needs a hub to draw power for a light. Seems to be well made, but unfortunately useless to me. Seems everything I plug into this hub does not have enough power to operate or charge, even my ipod Nano. I've tried with both the red and black plugs connected and just the black. Maybe it would work better if they didn't include the useless "light up" feature.
And it works.usually. Nothing sustained for a long time, and all of the documents were simple text docs in Word.
Connected the printer straight into the notebook: and away we went.the other connected devices were a fan and a BlackBerry (sometimes), but when I was printing the night before: it wasn't an issue. So, heads-up: the hub makes "sense", but when it doesn't work, it won't make sense. Restarted notebook: same thing.
Then, this AM: nothing would go through. Restarted again: same result-nothing.
Not sure what to make of this hub: all of the cosmetic and geometric factors on this hub make me think, this is a no-brainer for anyone with a notebook and needs multiple hard-connections via USB. Example: I used it for some significant time printing to an OfficeJet last night: more than 5 hours of on-again, off-again printing.
Nothing was different from the night before.
Works just fine, does not need a power supply, and it is very small and petite.
I wanted something really small and this was the perfect size for this use. I have a bunch of these that we use in conference rooms to extend the in-table computer's USB up to the table top so people can plug in USB memory sticks as necessary. They've worked flawlessly in this capacity.
It actually requires two slots for using powered USB components, such as an iPod, fan, or multi-picture card reader. The failure was related to data transfer.
Either way, failure after just one week of use is not good. Rebooting did not solve the problem.
The connected devices were receiving power, but they could not communicate with my laptop. It looks like the data transfer chip failed or the connector for data failed.
While it worked, I was pleased. Very compact design and works automatically with both Mac OS or XP Pro.Unfortunately, it failed after just one week.
When I connected the USB devices directly, they worked fine.
